Hip-hop just added another official billionaire to the scoreboard.

Legendary producer and mogul Dr. Dre has officially crossed the billion-dollar mark, landing a spot on the 2026 Forbes Billionaires List and cementing his status as one of the wealthiest figures in music.

According to Forbes, Dre now ranks No. 3,332 among the richest people in the world, tying with several high-profile names including Rihanna, Jared Kushner and Stanley Tang, the co-founder of DoorDash.

The publication estimates Dre's wealth comes primarily from his business ventures, especially his longtime record label Aftermath Entertainment and the headphone brand Beats Electronics.

Dre co-founded Beats in 2006 alongside music executive Jimmy Iovine. The company later became one of the most successful audio brands in the world before being acquired by Apple for $3 billion in 2014, one of the biggest deals in music industry history.

At 61 years old, Dr. Dre now joins a very exclusive hip-hop billionaire club that currently includes just one other rap legend: JAY-Z, whose fortune is estimated around $2.8 billion.

Other rap icons like Kanye West and Sean 'Diddy' Combs previously reached billionaire status according to various reports, though recent controversies and business losses reportedly affected their net worth.

Beyond hip-hop, Dre is also part of an elite group of musicians who have crossed the billion-dollar threshold. That list includes stars such as Beyoncé, Taylor Swift and Bruce Springsteen.

Meanwhile, the top of the 2026 billionaire rankings remains dominated by tech mogul Elon Musk, whose stakes in Tesla, SpaceX and xAI have pushed his net worth to an astonishing $839 billion.

Interestingly, this isn't the first time Dre believed he hit billionaire status.

Back in 2014, shortly before Apple finalized the Beats acquisition, the N.W.A icon appeared in a viral video alongside Tyrese Gibson claiming he had become hip-hop's first billionaire.

At the time, financial reports later revealed the deal had actually boosted his net worth to around $800 million, leaving him just short of the billion-dollar milestone.

According to the book After Steve: How Apple Became a Trillion-Dollar Company and Lost Its Soul, that viral video may have even cost Dre and Jimmy Iovine money, as Apple CEO Tim Cook allegedly used the leak as leverage to lower the final purchase price.

More than a decade later, though, the West Coast legend has finally made it official.

And in hip-hop history, that's another major milestone for one of the genre's most influential architects.
